The 7500ha Private Khamkirri Nature Reserve offers a number of adventure activities in the Kakamas area of the Green Kalahari. Khamkirri means ‘Place of the Leopard’ in the local Nama tongue, and the leopard is the Reserve’s only ‘large predator’ – shy and nocturnal, but there are several other species of game that can be viewed from horse-back or game drive vehicles.
Khamkirri’s location on the northern banks of the Orange River near Upington make it a great destination for white-water rafting and fly-fishing as well as other adventure activities – from 4×4 trails to cycle trails, to abseiing and quad-biking. All trails are guided. 4×4 trails range from difficult to easy and involve a number of terrains, including dune climbs, and also range in length and duration from 1km to 5day trails.
Camping and self-catering accommodation is also available on the Reserve, right on the river and there is a great deck on the river for sundowners and meals.
